General Overseer of Synagogue for All Nations, Prophet T B Joshua, warns politicians not to derail the nation’s democracy. He spoke with TAI ANYANWU. Excerpts

There are so much troubles in Nigeria today, problem of insecurity, treat to national unity, political manoeuvres by rival political parties. What are your comments concerning these troubled times in the country?

It is a normal thing for a country that has a bright future, God’s promise. Bright future always attracts persecution, condemnation and enemies when it’s realised that the future is bright, and you see a lot of pressure and treats. The country is on the part to greatness, it will compete with any Western nation in future and the western nations know that Nigeria is going to be a giant. That is why their support in these trying times is needed. There is no country that has not passed through this.

All the countries that have become great today, they all passed through turbulence that nearly consumed them. How we manage the situation matters. If we don’t manage it well, we will not witness the greatness. It is not that the greatness would not come, but that would not be for our generation. The greatness will still come but for the coming generation.

With the turbulence being experienced in some states of the federation; and the election just around the corner, how do you think this will play out?

Elections will not happen in some states because of the frequent attacks. T h i s could affect between three to four states. The states would be a no-goarea due to violence and elections would not take place in those states unless we move closer to God. We must intensify our prayers. This is what God has showed me and you can imagine what would happen if elections don’t hold in those states. It would have great implication for our democracy.

How should we manage it?

We should not allow the politicians to politicise all the areas of our lives. For example if you want to enjoy anything, you have to be part of their party. Job, friendship etc, unless you are part of their party, you cannot benefit from things that should be available to you as a citizen. Look at electricity, health etc, they have politicised everything. Religion has been politicised, Christianity has been politicised. They go to church etc; the pulpit is where they campaign now. Now they go to churches, and mosques and bomb them.

These are people in church who had gone to pray for themselves. Must everybody become a politician? How we handle the situation at hand now matters. If the situation is not well managed, we will find ourselves postponing the great Nigeria; which we will not witness but that would be witnessed by our children.

Don’t let us politicise every area of our lives. Let us carefully play our politics with keen decency because 2015 matters in the history of Nigeria. It is either we cross the bridge successfully or it collapses. A good Nigerian that wants this greatness should be able to pay whatever proper price that is needed to be paid to make this dream of a great Nigeria possible. If your being in politics will make this greatness come, then join. From now to 2015 is a very important period in the history of Niger i a and if we don’t manage the situation well, our democracy would be rubbished.

How do you mean … that our democracy would be rubbished?

A situation where there would be lawlessness, lawlessness in the sense that the law would not be capable of guiding us because of the pro (for) and cons (against) as contained in the law and that would now take so much time which would now lead Nigeria to a discussion table. Where would you and I be at that time?

What can you say about APC and PDP?

In body we can call it APC and PDP; but in spirit, they are one and the same thing. I am yet to see the difference. I am looking forward to seeing the difference.

The president has just suspended Sanusi Lamido and people are saying he is being witchhunted because of his revelation on $20bn missing oil money. What is your take on this?

There are some agencies that are technical. CBN is one of the agencies that we should not play politics with or politicise. One, the head of the agency should do away with politics; the president should also not play politics with the agency.

With the situation in the country today and the agitation on 2015, what advice do you have for politicians not to create more tension in the polity and what is the way out?

The advice; many of us need to leave politics while many others need to join, in order to inject fresh blood. The people that need to leave politics are not the common people. This is in order to avert the disaster that could rubbish our democracy

The Synagogue is now like a tourist centre; what’s happening here that is different from what is happening in other churches?

There is nothing happening here that is different from other living churches. If there is any difference, it is the availability of abundance of anointing to meet needs. Where there is demand, there is supply, says the Lord

The Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Tuesday sacked virtually all aviation chiefs in the troubled industry, just weeks after sacking Stella Oduah as the minister of aviation.

The president sacked the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, George Uriesi, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, Namdi Udoh and the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Agency, NCAA, Fola Akinkuotu and the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, NCAT, Chinyere Kalu.

A statement by Sam Nwaobasi, Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said under the new arrangement, Engr. Saleh Dumona (Director Projects, FAAN) is to replace Mr. George Uriesi as Managing-Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) while Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam (General Manager, Procurements, NAMA) is replacing  Engr. Nnamdi Udoh as Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

Also Capt. Samuel Akinyele Caulcrick (Government Safety Inspector & ICAO Focal Point for Nigeria on line Aircraft Safety Information Systems, OASIS) is to replace Capt. (Mrs.) Chinyere Kalu as Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT).

(iv)Capt. Muhktar Usman (Commissioner, Accident Investigation & Prevention Bureau, AIPB) to replace Capt. Fola C. Akinkuotu as Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) subject to confirmation by the Senate. Engr. Benedict Adeyileka is to act as DG, NCAA pending the confirmation by the Senate.

Suspected militant Islamists have killed at least 29 people in an attack on a town in north-eastern Nigeria's Borno state, a lawmaker has said.

Government troops fled when the militants raided Mafa town on Sunday night, Ahmad Zannah added.

The attack brings to about 150 the number of people killed in Borno since Friday in attacks by the militants and the military, reports say.

The Islamist group Boko Haram is waging an insurgency in Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in Borno and two other states in May, giving the military extra powers to curb the four-year insurgency.

However, Boko Haram has stepped up its violent campaign, with hardly a day going by without reports of a deadly attack by militants, says BBC Nigeria correspondent Will Ross.

Thousand of people have been killed in the conflict and hundreds of thousands have fled their homes.

'Air raid'

Mr Zannah, a senator from Borno state, told BBC Focus on Africa that Boko Haram had warned about a week earlier that it planned to attack Mafa.

Schools were shut and most residents fled to Maiduguri city, about 45km (28 miles) away, he said.

Military reinforcements were sent to Mafa, but soldiers still lacked the firepower or numerical strength to confront the militants, Mr Zannah added.

"When the attack took place, all of them ran away, along with the villagers. There was no resistance," he said.

Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram, has been badly affected by the conflict

Two policemen were killed by a bomb on Monday morning and fourteen soldiers were missing, Mr Zannah said.

On Saturday night, suspected Boko Haram fighters reportedly destroyed the entire village of Mainok, about 50km west of Maiduguri.

Gunmen attacked the village with assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and explosives, killing 47 people, residents said.

Earlier on Saturday, two bombs killed about 50 people in a densely populated area of Maiduguri - a city which Boko Haram has often targeted.

Borno state senator Ali Ndume told BBC Hausa that about 20 people, many of them elderly, were killed when the army launched an air raid on Daglun village on Friday night.

However, the defence ministry denied the allegation.

"The reports are believed to be part of the design by those bent on discrediting the counter-terrorist mission," its spokesman Chris Olukoladehe is quoted by the AFP news agency as saying.

He said government forces had killed a number of Boko Haram fighters in an operation on Sunday evening, including those believed to have killed at least 29 people in an attack on a rural boarding school in Yobe state more than a week ago.

Boko Haram members suspected to have been involved in the bombings in Maiduguri have also been arrested, Mr Olukoladehe said, AFP reports.

Both the Nigerian army and Boko Haram have repeatedly been accused by rights groups of committing atrocities during the conflict in the region.

Abusing me not beneficial to your states, Jonathan tells governors

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday excoriated Nigerian Governors attacking him and his office and added that doing so will not be beneficial to their various States.

The President who said this while playing host to a delegation from Anambra State led by Governor Peter Obi said it will be more beneficial for the Governors to maintain a good relationship with the centre while they concentrate on the development of their States.

“A number of politicians feel that the best thing to do is to be abusing Mr. President, abusing the Federal Government and so on,” the President told the delegation who was in the presidential villa to inform him about the imminent exit of Governor Obi from office.

The delegation comprised of leaders of both from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra as well as Willie Obiano, the Governor elect of the State.

“If you are elected to develop your state, I think the best thing is to have good relationship with the centre; whether you have a pin or you don’t have but one day it will come. Wearing boxing gloves, jumping into the boxing ring to face Mr. President does not help the development of any state,” the President added.

He however noted that Governor Obi is different as he was able to manage the State House of Assembly without any crisis even though it was dominated by members of another political party.

“He has shown very clearly that he is a politician that believes in the people not for himself. We thank you for all these and on our own part, we promise that this relationship we have with Peter Obi, the same relationship we will also have with the incoming governor and deputy,” the President who enjoin a very cordial relationship with the Governor who was elected on the platform of APGA added.

While thanking the President for his support to the outgoing Governor, the delegation implored the President to extend the same support to Obiano who will be sworn in later this month.

“We humbly ask that you embrace him ( Obiano), partner with him and assist and guide him as you have done with Gov. Peter Obi. For that, we the people of Anambra State shall be eternally grateful,” Professor ABC Nwosu, a former minister who spoke on behalf of the delegation said.

Nwosu added that the tenure of the departing Governor has been fruitful for the people of Anambra State inspite of the political odds he encountered in office.

While he noted that history will judge Obi very well, Nwosu noted that the support of President Jonathan contributed to the success achieved by the Governor.

The former minister also thanked the President for all he has done for the State, including the promise to flag-off the second Niger Bridge

“Your compact and article of faith with the people of Anambra is a solid one. As you have cared for, and shown us much love, we too, shall reciprocate in equal measures”.

In his reply, President Jonathan also thanked the delegation for the support they gave him during the 2011 elections. He added that he would be in Anambra on March 10 for the ‘ground breaking ceremony’ of the Second Niger Bridge.

The President said the ground breaking ceremony for the building of the bridge has earlier been postponed to ensure that the finances were worked out.

The President added that the challenges being faced by Nigeria is transient and the country will soon overcome them.

The delegation included Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe; former Anambra governor, Chinwoke Mbadinuju; PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh; and foremost constitutional lawyer, Ben Nwabueze. the deputy governor, Emeka Sibeudu; governor elect, Willie Obiano; deputy governor elect, Nkem Okeke among others.

Man Cancels Wedding as Bride Fails Pregnancy Test In Redeemed Christian Church of God

 When churches compel ladies who have been séxually active for years to just abstain from the act over night it should be made clear that most of these ladies may just be pretending to be abstaining because of the man they want to get married to in church but they are busy getting “enough servicing” from other men. This was the big mess that played out at a Redeemed Church branch last Saturday, 22nd February, 2014. The Senate President’s wife, Helen Mark, was to play hostess at the wedding. 

The bride, Cynthia worked for her and was said to be an orphan thus had become her adopted daughter. Guests got to the venue of the big wedding at about 9am but 2hrs later, neither the bride or the groom came out. As guests started getting impatient, the groom came out, took the microphone and announced to the surprise of all guests present that he is no longer interested in the marriage… It later turned out that the the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, that was supposed to wed them had conducted a pregnancy test for the lady 24hours before the day and the result turned out POSITIVE. The BIG problem however is that the mam had never slépt with the lady. So, who got her pregnant? The lady on her own part insisted she was not pregnant and went to do her own pregnancy test in a different hospital and the result came out as NEGATIVE. 

Crazy drama in church. Redeemed church called their doctor to do a second test and the test traced the thing and it was POSITIVE! The church did several tests and all came out POSITIVE, but the lady is still insisting that she is not pregnant. Could it be that she had terminated her “pregnancy” and did not know that the church’s test could trace it? The man insisted that he can’t marry a woman who is pregnant for another man, and a liar. David Mark’s wife and her people begged the man to forgive and marry her but he stood his ground. Never! A source told us that the man’s main anger was that when they were dating she didn’t allow him to go “far”, meaning there was no special torching. She was trying to paint herself as a good girl before her man, so he can’t go ahead and marry her since another man was enjoying what he was denied. The lady cried but it didn’t change anything. Some guests ate their rice others didn’t. The man walked away!

Omotola Ekeinde Gives Advice On How To Sustain A Marriage: “Never Struggle For Power With The Man”

Award-winning actress and one of the TIME 100 most influential persons, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and her husband share their love story in a frank interview with Punch. Below is a brief excerpt:

What was the initial attraction?
Matthew: She was beautiful, fresh and untouched. I decided to start with someone who hadn’t seen the world yet.

When did you propose to her?
Matthew: We didn’t court. I met her when she was 16 and I was 26. We got married when she was 18. She clocked 36 recently. We were family friends and I met her through my elder sister. She used to come around the house and when she turned 18, I decided she was ripe. I told her I would marry her and she didn’t believe. I went to tell her late mother, who said I should wait till after four years because Tola had just gained admission to the university then. I told the mother that I couldn’t wait because I didn’t trust the guys in the university.

How can a woman have a successful marriage?
Omotola: I don’t believe in gender equality. I do not believe that God made man and woman to be equal in any way. I believe that in every organised institution, there is always a head and an assistant. It doesn’t mean that one should take the other for granted, or disrespect the other. I believe the husband is the head of the home and the wife is an assistant...

My husband is a pilot, I have flown with him several times and I understood that there is a captain and a co-pilot. They are both responsible for the passengers’ lives. But when there is a final decision to make, it is up to the captain to make it. He is more experienced and the one with the responsibility. But any mature captain will not ignore his co-pilot because the co-pilot is not a cabin attendant. He is there for a reason. It just depends on how you understand and play your roles.

I believe women should understand this. When a woman starts a struggle for power tussle with him, it tends to cause friction in the home. The woman should give the man the respect as the head of the home and also prove herself as a worthy co-pilot. He needs to see you as a reliable co-pilot. Sometimes, he may not be the one running the house day-to-day, you are the one to take decisions but you have to do it in such a manner that he is comfortable enough to see you as someone he can rely on. When you have a proud and egocentric husband, hand him over to God. If you feel like your life is being threatened, or that of your children, get yourself out of that situation. You owe your children that. Try separation for a while, but before that, you must have tried other things. I do not believe that people should throw in the towel in their marriage at every flimsy excuse. You must have been a diligent wife and tried prayers and intervention. If all those fail, then you can remove yourself from that situation. Also, couples should be friends and communicate. What we call love sometimes fizzles out. True love comes from friendship. When you don’t feel those initial sparks, friendship is what keeps you together, until when the spark comes again.

How do you feel when she plays romantic roles in movies?
Matthew: They are all make-believe. They are not real and most of her movies are pecks and not kisses. I told her not to cross that boundary.

What are the secrets of your successful marriage?
Matthew: It is God’s grace. We are disciplined and prayerful.

Omotola: It has to be God. There is no other strategy. One person can be perfect and the second person can be nasty. On our part, I’d say also that we don’t look at the relationship as something we can walk away from. We look at it as a life commitment. When you parents upset you, you cannot divorce them. Even the bible says you will leave your father and your mother and cleave to your spouse. Luckily, he doesn’t drink or smoke or abuse me. I don’t have any major thing to complain about, and I hope it is the same thing for him.

Do you quarrel?
Matthew: Yes we do. A lot. She is very argumentative. She always wants to be right. You can never win an argument with her. But she is the first to apologise.

Omotola: When there is a quarrel, I usually apologise first. He doesn’t say sorry. Overtime, I have come to realise that it is an ego problem. Even when he knows he is wrong, he will rather do every other thing or buy things for me than say, ‘I’m sorry.’ Fortunately, the ‘sorrys’ are not too many. He is very responsible and more hardworking than me. By God’s grace, we have been able to understand our routine.

Do you still have time to cook?
Omotola: I cook all the time. I love to cook. I don’t go to the market but I do the cooking.

You go to the market for her?
Matthew: Yes and I don’t feel bad doing it. I am not just doing it for her; I do it for the family. I enjoy it a lot and I have been doing it since we got married.

What pet names do you call each other?
Matthew: I call her Omosexy.
Omotola: I call him Honey Boy

Do you see this love lasting forever?
Omotola: Yes, though I’m not playing God, I believe our love shall be forever.
